Riley Keough believes her late mother, Lisa Marie Presley, and her younger brother, Benjamin Keough, are now on a "new adventure" following their passing. In a preview clip from the upcoming CBS special, An Oprah Special: The Presleys - Elvis, Lisa Marie And Riley, Riley opened up to Oprah Winfrey about how she has been coping with the loss of her loved ones.
"I think having two family members who have passed away, a lot of that time and grief has been spent wondering about where they are," Riley, 35, shared. "And I think that the perspective I choose to have is that they are onto a sort of new adventure: The Great Unknown."
Lisa Marie Presley passed away on 12 January 2023 at the age of 54 due to complications from bariatric surgery, while Benjamin died by suicide in July 2020 at the age of 27. Reflecting on her mother’s grief, Riley also spoke about how deeply Lisa Marie struggled with the loss of her father, Elvis Presley, who died suddenly in 1977.
"Her grief was very.... I don't think she knew how to process it," Riley explained. "It was a very private thing for her." She added that there were moments when she would find her mother "sitting on the floor crying" while listening to Elvis' music.
Riley is also preparing for the release of her mother’s posthumous memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown, which she completed at Lisa Marie’s request after her passing. Both the memoir and the full interview with Oprah Winfrey are set to be released on 8 October.
